At the conclusion of the 2013-2014 school year, staff members were updated on the process of replacing their staff laptops. With the start of the 2014-2015 school year, the new staff laptop was announced.
With the laptops now shipping to the United States, it is time for final technical preparations. While the Information Services team will do the bulk of the work to prepare each laptop for individual certified staff members in order for them to have the best experience possible, it will be critical that staff members also prepare their own files and accounts.
At the time of this post, a final schedule is not yet in place for distributing laptops, but the Information Services team and school principals have begun to work on the process of arranging this schedule. More information on this schedule will follow at each school from principals and LMC team members!
New laptops with SSDs + The Cloud = Less local storage
Please note that, like many laptops today, the Lenovo 11e Yoga models purchased by School District 21 come with very fast SSD drives. While these are much faster than traditional hard drives, they are also more expensive, and as a result, the sizes are typically much smaller. This will impact only a small number of CCSD21 staff members who have stored a huge amount of data locally on their Staff MacBooks. Those staff members will receive individual emails from the Tech Center stating that they do need to limit the files that they transfer to their new computers.

Professional, not personal
As staff members are transitioning to new computers, for a variety of reasons, it is important that only professional, education and CCSD21-related files are moved to the new computers and to Google Drive.

Each District 21 school is named after an American author, and learning and literacy is at the center of our Professional Learning Community. The Modern Pen provides a collaborative location in which District 21 teachers can come together to learn the skills that will enable their students to learn new skills and to understand concepts at an even different level than before.
